MIDDLETOWN – Lean on us, when you’re not strong, and we’ll help you carry on. That was Cornerstone Family Healthcare leaders’ message to the Middletown Community Health Center in recent months as the provider financially floundered.
Now, MCHC, which has struggled to punctually pay and insure its staff this year, is willing to accept permanent help just a month after signing a six-month consulting deal for Cornerstone to help manage the health center. In a late Thursday afternoon letter to MCHC’s 144 employees, board chairwoman Stefanie Hubert announced the health center is negotiating to sell its assets to Newburgh-based Cornerstone.
If the deal is completed as the health centers’ leaders hope over the next 60 to 90 days, it would unite two of the mid-Hudson’s biggest providers for low-income patients. Only Cornerstone’s name would remain.
