Cornwall, N.Y. – Cornerstone Family Healthcare is pleased to welcome Michele McKeon to its Board of Directors. Michele is currently the Chief Operating Officer of the Regional Economic Community Action Program (RECAP), a not for profit dedicated to empowering people and communities challenged by poverty, racism, and social injustice by collaborating with public and private partners to provide high quality health and human services, education, advocacy, and hope.
Michele began her career at the Orange County TeenLine as its Coordinator and as a Rape Crisis Volunteer. Subsequently, she worked at the Dispute Resolution Center before moving onto to Safe Homes of Orange County as their Director of Residential Services and then the Executive Director. She and her team transformed Safe Homes from a small, not for profit to a strong, vibrant and powerful voice for victims of domestic violence with innovating programming.
In 2009, Michele took the position of Chief Executive Officer of New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV). Under her leadership, NYSCADV was able to create stability for this statewide organization as well as pass an aggressive legislative agenda including the Fair Access Bill and making strangulation a crime in NYS for the first time.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, in partnership with the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, Michele co-founded Newburgh Mutual Aid to address food insecurity in the City of Newburgh. The group delivered over 300,000 pounds of produce and healthy food to local families.
Michele has trained statewide and nationally on the issues of domestic violence, poverty and substance use and mental health, and she is a sought-after keynote speaker on issues facing women and girls. In 2021, Cornerstone Family Healthcare honored Michele with an award for Distinguished Service at its annual Pillars of the Community Awards Gala.
Michele’s extensive personal, professional, and volunteer experience make her a welcome addition to Cornerstone’s Board of Directors. We look forward to working together to further the mission of Cornerstone Family Healthcare.
